Emirgan is one of the most favorite districts of the Bosphorus. It is named after Emir Güne who was who was housed here by Sultan Murat in the 17th century. LaterSultan Abdülhamit I parceled the district and handed out to the public. There wasthe palace of Egypt Khedive İsmail Paşa and seven waterside houses where his family resides at the beginning of 19th century.
Sultan Abdülhamid II bestowed the site where the museum stands today, to Prince Nikolai of Karadağ and it served as the Karadağ Embassy until 1913. Prince Mehmet Ali Hasan the grand son of the Khedive purchased this territory in 1923 and had a new pavilion built to architect Eduard de Nari. Princess İffet, the elder sister of the prince moved here in 1944 together with her daughters and cousins.
Hacı Ömer Sabancı the founder of Sabancı saga purchased this pavilion in 1951 when he decided to move his business and residence from Adana to İstanbul. When he put a bronze horse sculpture he bought from an auction and which is made in Paris the pavilion was called Atlı Köşk (The Equestrian Villa).
This historical structure served as the residence of Sakıp Sabancı family until 1999 and then turned over to Sabancı University with its valuable furniture and works and garden for 49 years.

Mar 21, 2008: 9:48am NY Time.

I have been looking through your photos for the past 10 minutes. You have an amazing eye for composition and your photographs are pro level. Further you seem to excel both at landscape and macro photography - two very different genres.

This shot has great mood. Perfect DOF for the setting and 'feels' tranquil.

umm....by any chance can you tell what type of trees those are?
Ballroompics 2008-03-21 20:51:20
I was looking through my 'favorites' - this photo still catches my eye everytime I look at it. Quite surprised it has no other comments since my March one.
